Printing BARCODES

To Print the USPS Postnet Barcode on your mailing piece for discounted postage rates, your mailing list must be CASS certified.  If you don't have the capability to do this click here.

If your mailing list is CASS certified, read below on how to print the barcode.

If using wordprocessing software like MS Word to print your mailing list:

 The USPS Barcode consist of  the Zip code  Zip +4  Delivery Point digits (2)  and check digit (1)

This makes for the 62 marks.  Your barcode must have the 62 marks to qualify for cheaper postage rates.

 Once you have all this data you must enclose it in a start character and end in a stop character.

The most common marks are  [  ]  ,    { } ,  <  > ,   /  /  ,  ! !,

Be sure to know which marks work with your Barcode font.  If don't have a barcode font Download free one here.  USPS BARCODE FONT.

If you downloaded the font off my web page, the start and stop characters are    /    /
**note: in some operating systems the Capital S is the start and stop character. Try the / / and if those don't work try the Capital S on the beginning and the end of your zip=4 Delivery Point Check digit format .

So on your label template or your letter or envelope you should input these fields with NO spaces or hyphens or extra marks

/Zipcode+4DeliveryPointCheckDigit/        or        SZipcode+4DeliveryPointCheckDigitS
whichever works with your operating system.

once you have this data, highlight it and change the font to USPS BARCODE (western) font.  I have found that the 16 point is the right size, but print a sample first  your barcode should be 3 inches long so pick appropriate font size that makes it this long   Make sure it contains the 62 marks, if it doesn't you haven't inserted all the correct fields

If using MS Word your template on your letter, envelope or Label should look something like this; give or take the fields that you will use.

This is just a generic sample:

<FIRST NAME> <LAST NAME>
<COMPANY>
<ADDRESS>
<CITY> <STATE> <ZIP>

/Zipcode+4DeliveryPointCheckDigit/

then highlight and change font on the last line only to USPS Barcode Western or whatever the name of your font is.

 IMPORTANT

Don't forget to use the start stop characters one at the beginning of barcode and one at end and no spaces or extra marks just numbers.  /902101234793/ or S902101234793S    then change font to barcode. Simple.
